Aid for protecting intellectual property

Financial support in the form of a subsidy can be offered by the Brussels-Capital region to small and medium companies to cover costs related to obtaining and validating patents and other intellectual property rights concerning the results of research and development projects. This grant must be requested from Innoviris, and can cover admissible expenses for a maximum period of three years from reception of the request.

The financial support is provided in the form of unrecoverable subsidies. The rate of intervention from the region depends on the size of the company, the nature of the project which led to the results requiring protection, and whether the R&D project was financed by the region or not:

The base rate can be increased by 15% when the research producing the results has been carried out in cooperation with a research body. The intervention rate is capped at 80%.
